Dutch tourist dies in remote Malaysian National Park after health incident
A 33-year-old Dutch woman died from a sudden medical emergency while trekking in a remote area of Malaysia’s Taman Negara National Park, located northeast of Kuala Lumpur. She was part of a group of 16 international tourists, accompanied by a guide, according to local reports.
The incident occurred after the group completed a one-hour boat ride and a two-hour walk. During the walk, the woman suddenly fell ill, collapsed, and lost consciousness, Malaysian media reported.
The group's location in the isolated park, along with heavy rain, made it difficult for authorities to call for help. Once the alarm was raised, rescue teams faced additional challenges, with muddy paths delaying their arrival. It took four hours for them to reach the scene.
The harsh weather and slippery terrain reportedly further hindered the recovery of the woman’s body. The operation was briefly suspended before a helicopter was able to airlift her to a hospital in Kuantan for further investigation into the cause of death.
