Hieronymus Bosch painting confirmed for Kansas City museum

Researchers have determined that a painting kept in storage for years at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri was actually painted by Hieronymus Bosch. Born in Den Bosch, Noord-Brabant, the painter likely produced the work in the early 16th century, newswire ANP reported. The painting, The Temptation of Saint Anthony, was previously thought to have been made by a student or admirer of Bosch. The revelation was made at the Noordbrabants Museum on Monday by the international team of experts working to determine how many paintings the well-known artist actually created. They used a series of infrared and photographic techniques to find a drawing underneath the oil paints, and tell-tale signs about the technique used that matched Bosch’s other known works. The researchers now believe that 25 smaller works may be attributed to Bosch, and have increased the number of drawings confirmed as his from ten to twenty.
