Building evacuated as Breda car bombing leads to arrest; Victim in critical cond.

Investigators in Breda evacuated 12 homes after discovering “possibly explosive materials” in an apartment Thursday afternoon, the police said on Twitter. A 69-year-old man was taken into custody at the flat. He lives in the apartment, which was frequently visited by the victim of a car explosion that happened at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The blast happened when the man opened the door to a black Mercedes-Benz, and it may have severed the victim’s limbs, witnesses at the scene said. One freelance photographer told newspaper AD that he could feel and hear the blast from his house several blocks away. The 63-year-old was taken in critical condition to the hospital and was still unconscious as of 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. He often played cards at the arrested man’s apartment, newspaper Telegraaf wrote. The victim is reportedly a member of the Satudarah motorcycle gang. Mayors of several municipalities in the western part of Noord Brabant will discuss the current wave of violent crime in the region. Three people were killed in small western Brabant villages over a two day period, including Brian Dalfour, the leader of the Amsterdam branch of the No Surrender motorcycle gang. Dalfour was killed along with Macedonian Muljaim Nadzak during an apparent drug deal. Two others were shot over a days-long period in August. “I want to know what is causing this, in order to choose a good approach,” Breda mayor Paul Depla told the newspaper of the upcoming meeting. The mayors in the region will hold talks on Monday.
