Train passengers in Amsterdam, Tilburg and Zwolle can expect delays during holiday break
Train passengers must take delays and detours into account during the April/May holiday break, because work is being carried out at various points on the track and at stations in different parts of the country. The work will cause disruptions at locations in Amsterdam, routes involving Tilburg, and other routes originating and ending in Zwolle.
From Monday to Saturday, work will get underway in and around Amsterdam’s Central Station and the Amsterdam Bijlmer-Arena station. The NS advised passengers in Amsterdam to avoid those two stations as much as possible, and instead travel via the Amsterdam Zuid station.
Additionally, work is being carried out near the Muiderpoort and Amstel stations. Alternatively, the national railway suggested passengers use the city’s metro, but this also has complications, according to railroad manager ProRail.
The metro will not run from Amstel to Spaklerweg from May 1 - 4 because of work south of the Amstel station. “Normally we do not stop train and metro traffic. The metro is often the alternative to trains and vice versa,” said ProRail project manager Wai Ko. “There are both train and metro tracks across the bridge that we are going to preserve,” Ko said of the bridge over the Weespertrekvaart.
“When we are done with those bridges, they can last for years to come and they will look like new again. That's the good news.”
Rail traffic around Tilburg will be at a standstill for two full weeks, because work is being carried out on the track connecting the city and Breda, and also between Tilburg and Vught. Replacement local and express buses will run, but passengers should allow for extra travel time of half an hour.
Train traffic to and from Zwolle will also be temporarily stopped from Monday to Wednesday, because a viaduct will be under construction. Zwolle is an important hub for traffic to the northern provinces.
No trains will operate between Zwolle and Kampen, and between Zwolle and 't Harde on Thursday and Friday. Replacement buses will also be deployed there.
