Dozens of Groningen homes evacuated due to gas leak

A gas leak in a home on Ankemaheerd in Groningen has resulted in dozens of homes being evacuated. A part of the street has been closed down. According to the fire department, a "sizable amount" of gas was measured in the home. About 40 homes have been evacuated as a precaution. Grid manager Enexis is working on closing the gas lines in the homes. The evacuated residents are currently waiting outside while shelter is being arranged.

According to Dagblad van het Noorden, a woman was present in the home where the gas leak originated. She has been taken to the hospital as a precaution. She is not seriously injured. The apartment complex involved is a seniors complex with about 75 residents, according to the newspaper.
