UberPOP drivers required a chauffeur's license

Uber will only approve drivers for its UberPOP service if they have an official Dutch chauffeur's license, the transport service said Wednesday. The service will assist drivers to get the permit, with the drivers contributing a 400-euro investment, NU reported. UberPOP prices will not rise, because of the decision, Uber Netherlands CEO Niek van Leeuwen confirmed. The new policy is a concession to Dutch taxi regulations set by the government. However, the new rules do not fulfil the requirements of the law since Uber drivers do not have blue license plates. KNV Taxi Secretary, Hubert Andela, thinks it is a shame that Uber does not act in its full responsibility. Uber picks out the cheapest requirements and hopes that they are seen complying with the law, according to the employer's organization. Traditional taxi drivers are angered by the UberPOP service, that hires drivers without relevant licenses, and undercuts established prices. Even after a Dutch court banned the service, it is still available in the Netherlands. Earlier, Uber announced a similar policy taking effect in Germany as well.
