Footballer denies stolen goods charge

Football player Jody Lukoki (22) of PEC Zwolle told the court in Amsterdam on Wednesday that he is innocent and was not involved in money laundering, Het Parool reports. The Public Prosecutor believes that Lukoki is indeed guilty and demanded a fine of 3 thousand euros. Lukoki ended up on the police's radar just after a year ago after a suspicious purchase of an expensive watch. Lukoki paid between 10,000 and 12,000 euros to fellow suspect and acquaintance 23-year-old Dustin B., with the agreement that B. would handle acquisition for Lukoki. After his arrest, B. said that he was acting on behalf of Lukoki. Lukoki initially told the police that he had paid 10 thousand euros for an exclusive Audemars Piguet. He later withdrew the statement in its entirety. He now states that he was not involved in the purchase of the watch. Lukoki said that after B.'s arrest he was called by an acquaintance and told to confirm the story. "I saw nothing bad in it and did not know it was a criminal offense. That was naive of me and I regret it." Lukoki said. According to the prosecutor, Lukoki should have known that something was amiss. In any case he was involved with the money laundering by telling untruths. The court will rule on this case in two weeks.
