Pakistan knocks out Dutch in Field Hockey Quarterfinal
Pakistan stunned fans in attendance by knocking the Netherlands out of the Hero Hockey Champions Trophy in the quarter-final on Thursday. Netherlands lost 2-4.
Number three-ranked Netherlands were defeated by eleventh-ranked Pakistan at the tournament, being held this year in Bhubaneswar, India.
The game was tied in the fourth quarter of the game, with only 11 minutes left on the clock. To the Netherlands' dismay, two successive goals were scored by Mohammed Ifran, the Pakistani captain.
The mighty Dutch conceded a loss to India (3-2) on Tuesday, starting what seemed to be a dwindling spiral in this year's Champions Trophy for the Netherlands.
"I believe we didn’t play our best game today. Pakistan gave us a hard job, they defended like lions," said Dutch captain Robert van der Horst. "They conceded less goals than we did because they defended harder than we attacked."
