SBS lands Champions League broadcast rights

SBS is a hair's breadth away from having the broadcasting rights of football matches in the Champions League. UEFA, who is selling the rights, is currently discussing the matter exclusively with the media company. AD reports that competitor RTL is not involved in the talks. SBS is aiming for a deal in which they can broadcast this season's matches on television and major shareholder Sanoma can use the images on its website nu.nl. Both platforms can thus strengthen each other. It is unknown how much money Sanoma and co-shareholder John de Mol has put up for the Champions League rights. SBS has confirmed that an offer has been made, but would give no further comment.
