Prosecutor demands €2.4m fine for corrupt housing boss

The prosecutor has called for a €2.4 million fine against Hubert Mollenkamp, former CEO of Rochdale, during his pre-trial hearing in court today. The former head of the Amsterdam housing corporation is facing charges of bribery, tax evasion, money laundering and perjury. Hubert was not present today at the hearing, nor were three other defendants. His wife, Alberdina V. is also facing a fine of €783,000 for her involvement in the fraudulent proceedings. According to the Public Prosecutor, Alberdina V. submitted a false invoice to the construction company, Multi in 2003. During the hearing today, the prosecutor shed light on the charges that Mollenkamp is facing, and also indicted him on perjury charges. Mollenkamp was asked under oath if he had been been involved in bribery, and each time responded that he had not. The prosecutor will push for a guilty verdict on the perjury charge if Mollenkamp is indeed guilty of bribery. The case is expected to be concluded sometime next summer.
