"Incomprehensible" terrifying dentist not investigated

Healthcare insurer DSW states that Healthcare Inspection has neglected for years to halt the practices of the 'horror-dentist' Mark van N. from The Hague, despite efforts from DSW, on three separate occasions in 2004, 2006 and 2007, to alert the Inspectors to the malpractice, the Algmeen Dagblad reports. Earlier this month, dentist Mark van N. was arrested in Canada on grounds of patient mutilation in France. Upon his arrest, the dentist confessed to the murder of his wife in The Netherlands in 2006. It later came to light that he also performed horrifying dental work in The Netherlands, where he was deported and placed under arrest. Advising dentist for DSW, Nico Kerkhof, tells the Algemeen Dagblad that it is "incomprehensible" that Inspection neglected to take action against Van N. DSW even sent a complete file to the Inspection in 2007 about two teenagers whose teeth were ruined by the dentist. An investigation into Van N. was only launched in 2009. Healthcare Inspection said at the time that the investigation into Van N. was started "after complaints of possible fraud and treatment." "There were no indications in this period that justified a measure or substantive investigation."
