PSV game cited in match fixing report

A new report published by Belgian group Federbet suggests that a 2014 football game between Dutch team PSV Eindhoven and Bulgarian side PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv may have been the subject of a match fixing scheme. The January 9 match is one of at least 13 suspected match fixing incidents involving a Bulgarian team, of which Lokomotiv Plovdiv played in two. The study by the lobbying organization did not point fingers at any one team or player. The group examines bets placed on various football matches in an effort to find suspicious activity. In the PSV match, the group claims to have noticed an excessive amount of bets on the “Over”, a term used to define an expected number of total goals scored in a sporting event, while the game was already in progress. PSV beat Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the friendly 3-0 at home in Eindhoven. The over/under total was set by some sports books at 1.5. Federbet also recommended an investigation into the Dutch First Division match between Achilles and Willem II on October 20, 2013, which ended with Willem II winning 5-1. The report suggests an excessive number of punters bet that Willem would win by at least two goals, or that the total number of goals scored would be over 3.5. The Belgian group was legally formed in 2011, following a 2010 European Commission investigation in online gambling. The organization is funded by bookmakers and casinos who can be at risk of losing significant sums on match fixing.
