Man suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend by stabbing her 17 times in Eindhoven
A 36-year-old man is suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend on February 4 by stabbing her 17 times. The fatal stabbing happened at night in the middle of the Pastoor Petersstraat in Eindhoven. Ismael I. claims that he wanted to stab the victim’s new boyfriend, but the woman stood between them and was stabbed.
He told his brother this, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) said during a first introductory hearing in the District Court in Den Bosch. “I am very sorry; I did not mean to hurt her. I still love her,” I. said on Friday. The victim was a 36-year-old of Turkish and Bulgarian descent.
The OM said that the messages they found showed that the man struggled severely with the fact that she had ended their relationship. The messages started with begging but continuously became angrier and more forceful.
He allegedly called the woman repeatedly before the stabbing incident. Camera footage showed that he had been waiting for her at the location for a while.
The suspect told his brother and friend that he would get his revenge on the victim’s boyfriend, who was with her that night. The woman was severely wounded due to the incident. She died a short while later in the hospital.
“A disproportionate response,” the prosecutor called it. He felt that the suspect should remain in pre-trial custody. The court agreed to this.
I. fled to Belgium after the incident, where he eventually turned himself into the police. He confessed where he had thrown the knife. The victim’s blood was found at the exact location.
The following court status session was set for August 20.
