Elderly man assaulted at wife's grave

An elderly man was assaulted and abused in Eindhoven while he was visiting the grave site of his late wife. The assaulter smashed the man's head against the cement tiles, and took off with €120. The 87-year old Jo Vlemmix, from Brabant, visited the grave site behind the St. Petruskerk church on the 16th of March. He had promised his wife Fien to visit her grave every day before she died, Omroep Brabant reports.

Once at the church, Vlemmix received a blow to the back of his head. He was pushed to the floor and hit his head on the cement. "There was so much blood", he told Omroep. Vlemmix is now home with a black eye and bruised cheek, minus his wallet with €120 euros that he watched the assaulter of 25 years-old run away with. Vlemmix has received internet support, however, as sympathizers, as a support page on Facebook received 23,000 likes in one day.
