Badr Hari attempted murder case continues

Badr Hari, professional kickboxer and suspect in several assaults in the nightlife environment, will appear before the Amsterdam court today, where his trial will be resumed. The case was suspended mid October last year, because part of the file had leaked to the media.

The prosecution had to investigate the origin of the leak to make sure the leak did not come from within the police department or the prosecution.

So far, Badr Hari's trial has been far from hassle free. When Hari was released from custody, pending his trial, it was under the condition he would stay away from catering establishment. Only a few days later he was arrested again for violating that condition. He was released again however, before the trial. Hari's brother was arrested for committing perjury, and then the case was suspended because of information leaking to the press.

Investigation of the issue showed that the businessman and victim, Koen Everink, was the one who gave at least part of the report to a reporter, Dirk Bayens, because he was reportedly under the impression the reporter would help him convince another witness to step forward. Bayens had claimed to have multiple sources.

Badr Hari once again stands trial for assaulting Koen Everink on the Dance festival "Sensation White," in June 2012, as well as a number of other violent crimes. Neither Badr Hari nor his lawyer, Bénédicte Ficq, want to comment on their strategies for the case.

Hari's victim, Koen Everink has announced from the start, he does not want to be present in the courtroom. Ficq wanted to question Everink about leaking the report, but her appeal to the court was dismissed.
