Two arrested in corruption case involving military police data leaks

Two men were arrested in Spijkenisse in a corruption investigation involving the leaking and sale of sensitive information from the Koninklijke Marechaussee, the Netherlands’ military police, authorities said. According to NU.nl, both suspects have been ordered to remain in custody for at least 14 days.

The suspects include a 31-year-old Marechaussee investigative officer and a 36-year-old man, both from Spijkenisse. Investigators allege the officer unlawfully accessed internal law enforcement systems to obtain personal and vehicle registration data, which he then sold to the other suspect.

Authorities said the 36-year-old man paid for the data, though the Public Prosecution Service declined to disclose the amount involved because the investigation is ongoing.

The case emerged following an inquiry by the Rijksrecherche and the national police unit Landelijke Opsporing en Interventies. The investigation led to the identification of the second suspect.

Both men were arrested Tuesday afternoon at separate locations in Spijkenisse by a heavily armed arrest team. Because one of the suspects is a Marechaussee officer, both men were brought before the military chamber in Arnhem on Friday afternoon. Earlier that day, they were presented to an examining judge.
