Personalized rookworst, all-you-can-eat pizza: Round-up of this years' April Fools jokes

Every year, companies try their best to play pranks on April Fools' Day on the 1st of April. This year’s “jokes” include personalized rookworst at HEMA, all-you-can-eat pizza at Domino’s, and choosing your own check-in sound on buses of the public transport company RET, according to a round-up by NU.nl.

Say it with rookworst. HEMA has, allegedly, jumped on the personalization train. “Want to thank someone? Wish them success? Congratulate them? Personalize a HEMA rookworst,” the chain wrote about their traditional smoked sausage on Instagram.

Transport company RET says travelers can personalize the sound that plays when they check in. Options include the Windows startup sound and several viral phrases.

PostNL offered a free door hanger to let delivery workers know that you cannot accept your package right now. The door hangers feature texts like “taking a shower,” “having a quick poop,” and “my mind is wandering during a video call.”

Pizza chain Domino’s advertised unlimited pizza delivered for two hours. You have to eat the whole pizza. If there is even a piece of crust left when the delivery person arrives with the next pizza, you have to pay €1.

Gym chain SportCity joined forces with Diergaarde Blijdorp in Rotterdam this year, advertising group exercise classes at the zoo - work out among the animals, they claim.

Vogelbescherming Nederland has imposed an age limit on its popular spring-time webcams. Watching mating birds is not for all ages, the bird protection society joked. “The cameras offer a close-up glimpse into bird life, where mating is also visible. That is why the measure of age verification was chosen.”
