Hundreds rally against racism and fascism in Amsterdam

Hundreds of people gathered Saturday afternoon on the Dam in Amsterdam to protest racism and fascism, according to an ANP reporter. The demonstration is organized annually by Comité 21 Maart on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Last year, at least 10,000 people attended the event.

Protesters carried signs reading “Silence = Consent” and “Make Racism Wrong Again,” while chanting slogans including “No Human Is Illegal” and “Nazi Scum Off Our Streets.”

“Harsh winds are also blowing in our country. We hear racist voices more often in politics and media. History has taught us what the horrific consequences can be,” Dagmar Oudshoorn, director of Amnesty International, told ANP at the Dam.

She added, “The struggle is not over. When they try to marginalize us, we rise. When they deny genocide, we rise.”
