Police arrest around 30 at anti-immigration protest in Amsterdam
Police arrested about 30 demonstrators in central Amsterdam on Saturday afternoon following an anti-immigration protest at and around Museumplein.
After the official protest ended, participants marched through the city center, setting off heavy fireworks and chanting slogans including “Asylum centers, get out,” and “We are the Netherlands.”
The Museumplein area and surrounding streets had been designated as safety risk zones in advance. Demonstrators were part of the “Nederland in Opstand” movement, which has staged similar marches in the past.
A counter-protest against racism and fascism was held nearby at Jonas Daniël Meijerplein, where several hundred people gathered. Organizers urged participants to avoid confrontations and emphasized safety.
