Thousands expected to join ‘Red Line’ protest in Amsterdam against Israeli policies
Thousands are expected to march through Amsterdam on Sunday, October 5, in a demonstration known as the “Red Line,” organized to demand political action against Israel’s occupation of Palestine. Organizers say the protest responds to the Dutch government’s refusal to implement stark measures.
Weeronline reports that Sunday morning will see frequent rain showers, with some areas receiving 10–15 millimeters of rain. Temperatures will range between 12 degrees during showers and up to 15 degrees when the sun appears.
The demonstration will start at 1 p.m. at Museumplein with a podium program moderated by Naeeda Aurangzeb. Speakers include Gaza journalist Rita Baroud, Samah Jaber from the Palestinian Community in the Netherlands, former minister Hedy d’Acona, and Loes de Kleijn of Doctors for Gaza.
At 1:45 p.m., participants will march along a 6.2-kilometer route from Museumplein through Overtoom and Amstelveenseweg, returning to Museumplein for a music program moderated by Frida Boeke, featuring performances by Rola Azar and Naaz. The event is expected to conclude around 5–6 p.m.
The demonstration has been joined by 134 organizations, including Amnesty International, BDS Netherlands, Dutch Scholars for Palestine, Oxfam Novib, PAX, Save the Children, and The Rights Forum.
Special activities are planned for children near the Museumplein stage, including a play area and a “Babbeltent,” where children can talk with experts about the impact of war and "express their hopes for Gaza through drawings and writings."
