Feyenoord pulls off surprise signing of former Premier League winner Raheem Sterling
Feyenoord has made a spectacular signing following the close of the transfer window. Free agent Raheem Sterling has signed a contract running until the end of the season.
Sterling, an 82-time England international, has featured for top teams such as Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal, claiming four Premier League titles along the way. The 31-year-old ended his Chelsea contract last month and remained without a club until Feyenoord swooped in.
Sterling will arrive in Rotterdam on Friday, pending his work permit. Feyenoord faces Go Ahead Eagles at home on Sunday. “As a free agent, I finally had the chance to carefully plan the next step in my career,” Sterling told Feyenoord’s website. “I spoke with multiple clubs and coaches to understand the role they saw for me and to make sure I could genuinely contribute at my new club.”
Following talks with director Dennis te Kloese and Robin van Persie, Sterling said he was excited to join Feyenoord. “I’m confident that Feyenoord is the right place for me. Playing abroad presents a completely new challenge, and I can’t wait to get started. I want to thank Feyenoord, and especially Robin and Dennis, for their patience and professionalism throughout this process.”
Feyenoord coach Robin van Persie believes Sterling will be a key addition in the coming months. “Securing a player of Raheem’s quality after the transfer window is incredible. His career speaks volumes. He has the ability to change games, and I’m confident he will help us reach our objectives in the remainder of the season.”
