Victim in Den Hoorn shooting is 16-year-old from Delft; One arrest made
The victim of the fatal shooting in Den Hoorn on Thursday evening is a 16-year-old from Delft. An 18-year-old man from Rijswijk, Zuid-Holland, was taken into custody overnight.
Authorities were called at approximately 9:40 p.m. after reports of a shooting on the Spoorplaats in Den Hoorn, which is a park-like path near the sports complex and bordering Delft. At the time, several people were in the area exercising.First responders discovered the victim gravely wounded, but despite their attempts to provide aid, he died on the spot.
According to local media, several suspects may have escaped on a scooter following the incident, and authorities say additional arrests could still be made.
Authorities have not yet confirmed if a gun was involved or what exactly caused the victim’s death. It also remains uncertain whether the victim and suspect were acquainted or what may have prompted the incident.
Police took the suspect into custody at approximately 3:20 a.m., but the location of the arrest and how authorities tracked him remain unclear.
Authorities have assigned a Major Crime Investigation Team (TGO) to look into the incident and are calling on witnesses to come forward, particularly those who may have surveillance or dashcam footage from the vicinity at the time.
A TGO is only scaled up for the most serious crimes, like homicides or large-scale organized crime. It usually consists of 20 to 30 specialized detectives, including digital forensic experts, tactical investigators, and neighborhood coordinators.
