Police launch manhunt after gunman flees Eindhoven apartment shooting

A full-scale manhunt is underway in Eindhoven after a shooting inside an apartment on Stationsplein on Wednesday. Police officers wearing bulletproof vests were stationed around the area as authorities searched for the suspect, ED reported.

According to emergency services records, police were dispatched to the area for a report of an incident involving a firearm just before 12:30 p.m. One man was found inside the apartment unharmed and is not considered a suspect. Another man, believed to be armed, fled the scene.

Omroep Brabant, citing a police source, reported that the suspect is in possession of firearms and may pose a danger to himself. The police officers who entered the residence were unable to find him, and who attempted to enter his apartment could not locate him.

Although the area involved the normally busy Stationsplein area, police emphasized gunshots were only fired in an apartment, and not on the street. "We are currently investigating a shooting at a residence on Stationsplein in Eindhoven," police confirmed in a statement on social media at about 12:40 p.m.

"As far as we know, no one was injured. We are still searching for the suspect. Little is known about the exact motive and circumstances."

He was still actively being sought by investigators 90 minutes later. "We have not yet been able to apprehend the suspect. If you have any information, please share it with us," police wrote in a brief update.

Authorities were continuing their investigation in and around the apartment later in the afternoon. The incident was not interfering with public transportation to or from the area, including Eindhoven Centraal station, which is just north of the crime scene.
