Drug packages found in truck involved in hijacking on A1 motorway
The truck was hijacked on Thursday at around 11 a.m. on the A1 near Muiden and was reportedly carrying drugs. Police said that one of the vehicles involved in forcing the truck off the highway was later found in Naarden, containing multiple packages believed to hold hard drugs.
The 48-year-old truck driver from Apeldoorn was unharmed and continued driving after the hijacking. He was located a few hours later on the N414 near Eemnes in his truck and taken into custody.
Parts Express, whose name was on the truck, stated that the vehicle does not belong to the company. It was reportedly a charter truck operating on behalf of Parts Express. According to a spokesperson, the truck has since “been sold to another party, but unfortunately, our name was not removed,” which they say is a rare occurrence. The spokesperson declined to name the charter company to confirm the details.
Authorities and media are investigating the incident as a possible “rip deal,” a type of crime in which a transaction, often involving drugs, is made to appear legitimate, only for one party to be robbed when the deal is executed.
In this case, the hijacking seems linked to the truck’s cargo, which reportedly contained drugs. De Telegraaf reports that approximately 160 kilograms of cocaine may have been the target. Police believe the suspects intentionally drove the truck off the highway to obtain its load.
Police have not yet identified any suspects. Witnesses reported that multiple cars were involved in the hijacking, possibly as many as five, a police spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, the car in Naarden was located shortly after the hijacking thanks to a tip from a witness who noticed something suspicious. The vehicle has been impounded.
