Amsterdam court orders two De Pizzabakkers restaurants to reopen after explosions

Two De Pizzabakkers restaurants in Amsterdam can temporarily reopen after a court ruling, following their closure by the city over a series of explosions targeting the chain. The locations at Haarlemmerdijk and Plantage Kerklaan were affected by the decision.

The court found that Mayor Femke Halsema had not sufficiently justified a prolonged closure. “At one of the two properties, there was no explosion,” the court stated, noting that the other location sustained severe damage, meaning an extended closure was unnecessary.

On September 12, Halsema ordered four De Pizzabakkers restaurants closed for six months, citing public order concerns after multiple explosions linked to the chain.

The closures for the other two locations remain in effect, including a second Plantage Kerklaan branch and a restaurant on Overtoom. The court highlighted that “recent incidents may still be linked to De Pizzabakkers."

Earlier this month, the chain’s lawyer warned that all four restaurants would go bankrupt within weeks if they were not allowed to reopen soon.
