Den Helder woman breaks record on breathalyzer test; Nearly six times over the limit

The Den Helder police had an unusual record broken on Saturday. A 37-year-old woman blew 1340 µg/l during a breathalyzer test. That is equivalent to 2.9 per mille alcohol. In the Netherlands, you are not allowed to drive with more than 0.5 per mille alcohol in your blood.

The police pulled the woman over on Molenstraat because of her driving behavior. They were stunned when she took the breathalyzer test. “Unfortunately, this is not a record to be proud of,” the police said, pointing out that this happened in the middle of the day.

The police confiscated the woman’s driver’s license. She told the police that she was struggling with an alcohol addiction. “We sincerely wish her strength and success in working through her alcohol addiction,” the police said. “At the same time, we hope she doesn’t get behind the wheel again.”

With the result of the breathalyzer test, the woman tops the list of drunk drivers this year, the police said. “Let’s hope no one wants to break this record.”
