Carnival traffic checks catch driver with cocaine on his nose, taxi with people in trunk

The police caught motorists committing some extraordinary offenses while doing large-scale traffic checks in Eindhoven during Carnival. Among the noteworthy offenders were a driver with white powder still under his nose and a drunk taxi driver with people in his trunk, Omroep Brabant reported.

Police checked 8,928 motorists over the five days of carnival. They fined 37 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and confiscated seven driver’s licenses.

Among those who lost their licence was a taxi driver who was transporting eight people while intoxicated. Three of his passengers were in the trunk.

Another man lost his licence for driving under the influence with two young children in the back seat.

Another man still had white powder on his nose when driving through the police check. He was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of hard drugs.

During the large-scale checks, police directed motorists to check points from four access roads around Eindhoven. The police used a new tool to speed up the checks. The “sniffer” can detect whether a driver has been drinking at a short distance from the mouth and works faster than the traditional breathalyzer.
