Bass player reunited with stolen guitar 13 years after theft
Bass player Ivo Severijns has been reunited with a guitar stolen at a Vrienden van Amstel concert 13 years ago. One of his friends noticed the Fender Precision offered for sale online. Severijns, who played for Kane, Wylon, and The Wilde Romance, notified the police and together got the instrument back.
Severijns’ friend, John van der Wolf, found the guitar listed online last week, the bassist wrote on Instagram. The bassist said he wanted to buy the guitar and, accompanied by two plainclothes officers, went to the location the seller indicated.
After being sent back and forth by the seller, they finally arrived at a home in Rotterdam. The seller recognized Severijns and fled in a car. But they left the guitar behind, which the police recovered.
The police questioned the seller when they returned. The suspect said that he traded the guitar five years ago for a sound system, the police said on Facebook. After deliberation, the police decided there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute the man for knowingly receiving stolen goods. “He did receive a few costly traffic violation tickets,” the police said.
Severijns is delighted to have his guitar back. “We didn’t think we’d ever find it again, but John didn’t let up, and he was proven right. Thank you, thank you,” Severijns wrote.
