Multiple explosions rock Rijswijk apartment building, no injuries reported

Multiple explosions struck a 12-story apartment building on Ocarinalaan in Rijswijk on Sunday around 1 p.m., causing part of the facade to collapse but leaving no reported injuries, according to Omroep West.

“The first explosion was massive,” said 74-year-old Cees Nolles, who was peeling potatoes in his kitchen across from the building when the blast occurred. Shortly afterward, a smaller secondary explosion followed.

The initial blast blew a section of the building’s gallery outward. Flames erupted from the building, and thick smoke lingered for some time, witnesses told the newspaper.

“Above the flat, a police helicopter was circling, and a trauma helicopter landed on a nearby grassy area. It looks black with emergency personnel now,” Nolles added.

Other witnesses confirmed hearing multiple explosions, according to police statements posted on X. Firefighters have since extinguished the blaze, and authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage.
