Festival of Early Music in Utrecht draws record 67,000 visitors
The 44th Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht (Festival of Early Music) attracted a record 67,000 visitors this year, organizers said, marking a 15 percent increase over last year’s attendance.
The festival featured performances across 46 venues throughout the city, including ZIMHC Zuilen, De Hondekop, and Buurtcentrum de Leeuw. For ten days, Utrecht celebrated music spanning centuries, including works by Louis Couperin and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas.
“We have brought early music closer than ever,” festival director Xavier Vandamme said. “The combination of world-class artists, young talent, new audiences, and music in every corner of the city has unleashed incredible energy.”
Organizers highlighted the Concert Camper—a mobile concert hall that visited different neighborhoods daily—which drew more than 8,600 attendees.
The next edition of the festival is scheduled for August 28 through September 6, 2026.
