57-year-old man dies after violence in Utrecht; police arrest local suspect

A 57-year-old man died following a violent incident in Utrecht overnight Friday to Saturday, and police have arrested a 20-year-old local man in connection with the case, NU.nl reports.

Police said they received a report of a resuscitation at Burgjeslaan at about 12:40 a.m. Officers arriving at the scene found the victim unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators identified the suspect through ongoing detective work. The 20-year-old man was taken into custody around 10 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.

Police have not released details about the circumstances of the violence but confirmed that the suspect is from Utrecht.

Officials issued an urgent appeal for witnesses to come forward, saying any information could be critical to the investigation.
