Police make nine arrests for "extreme violence" during PSV title celebrations in May
The police arrested nine suspects accused of violent acts in public during the celebrations of PSV’s Eredivisie title win on May 18 near the Philips stadium in Eindhoven. A large group turned against the police with “extreme violence” on the Sunday. A total of 14 officers were injured during the incident.
The men are suspected of public violence. They are between 22 and 49 years old and come from Eindhoven, Veldhoven, Nuenen, Aarle-Rixtel, and Utrecht.
The nine men are in custody and are being questioned. The mayor plans to impose a ban on them in the area around the stadium.
These were not the only arrests made in connection with the title celebrations. A total of 22 arrests were made on the day of the celebrations. Police have identified dozens of suspects after investigating the camera footage of the day. These suspects are also accused of extreme violence. The police also released footage of several suspects in order to track them down.
Police have said that these nine suspects are only “the start” and they are expecting more arrests.
PSV won the Eredivisie championship on the final day of the season after an incredibly dramatic comeback in the league table, bridging a nine-point gap over leaders Ajax.
