Burglary rates in the Netherlands hit lowest level in years in first half of 2025

The number of burglaries in the Netherlands in the last six months hit its lowest level in years. There were a total of 9,767 burglaries in the first half of 2025, an analysis made by ANP using data from the police shows.

The statistic shows a huge drop since 2012, when 43,614 burglaries occurred. This number has been dropping since that year. Thieves were able to enter a home on 31,124 occasions in 2015.

In recent years, the number of home burglaries from January through June remained fairly stable. In 2021, there were 9,790 burglaries during this period, increasing to 11,678 in 2022. In the following years, the numbers gradually decreased again.

Not all municipalities saw a decline in burglaries in recent years. In fourteen municipalities, the number of burglaries either increased or remained the same, though these involved small numbers. In 257 municipalities, burglaries have at least halved over the past decade.

The biggest drop was in the Noord-Brabant municipality of Best, with a 98 percent decrease. In 2015, burglars broke into homes there 47 times; in the past six months, only once.
