Violence at a residence in Hoofddorp led to the deaths of two people on Wednesday morning. Two police officers were also hurt during their response to an initial report that an individual stabbed multiple people at the location, the Noord-Holland police said.
The emergency services received the first report of a stabbing incident on Fanny Blankers-Koenlaan at around 6:05 a.m. “There are multiple victims, including a colleague,” the police said initially.
Several hours later, police issued an update saying that they were responding to a report of a brawl in the home, and the two people who were involved both died by stabbing. "The police fired gunshots during the incident. Two police officers were injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment."
What happened is still unclear, and the severity of the police officers' wounds was not released. The Rijksrecherche, an independent investigative service, will determine whether their use of force was justified.
Footage from the scene shows emergency services entering a home on Fanny Blankers-Koenlaan. Around six ambulances and several stretchers are on the street, ready to transport victims. Two trauma teams have also landed by helicopter, and the fire brigade deployed an elevated platform.
One photo shows a police car covered in blood. A police spokesperson would not comment to NH Nieuws during the morning. Police later said further comments will eventually be released by the Public Prosecution Service.
The police cordoned off a wide area around the home. According to NU.nl, a police helicopter is also circling the scene.
