Police release photo of suspect in deadly Rijswijk shooting
Police have released a photo of the suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Cemil Önal in Rijswijk last Thursday. The 41-year-old Turkish national was killed in what police believe to be a targeted attack. Önal, who was suspected of involvement in the 2021 assassination of businessman Halil Falyali in Turkey, was shot at close range while sitting on a hotel terrace.
The suspect is described as approximately 1.80 meters tall with a "normal to sturdy build." In the image shared by the police, the man is seen wearing black clothing, including a pair of pants that are "highly likely" to be from Adidas. The shooting occurred at around 17:45, and witnesses reported seeing the suspect flee the scene after the incident.
The police are looking for more information from anyone who was in the area at the time. Many bystanders observed the shooting, including two people sitting on a bench nearby. Authorities are especially keen to speak with them as they may have crucial information. Additionally, police are appealing to anyone who noticed anything unusual between 15:30 and 18:30 in the vicinity of Van Vredenburchweg, Guntersteinweg, and Erasmusweg to come forward.
