ProRail system failure seriously disrupting train traffic around Rotterdam
A system failure at ProRail has seriously disrupted train traffic to and from Rotterdam Central Station on Monday morning. No trains are running between the station and Schiphol, The Hague, Amsterdam, and Breda, among others. The Intercity Direct is also not running.
The issue is an IT failure in the electronic security system responsible for the operation of signals and switches, ProRail said. The rail manager spoke of a “considerable disruption” which is “of course, very annoying for the carrier and passengers.”
The issue is affecting passenger train routes between Rotterdam Centraal and Amsterdam Zuid, as well as the central stations in Schiedam, The Hague, and Leiden. The problem is also affecting high-speed line trains, with routes connecting Rotterdam to Breda and Dordrecht impaired, according to Dutch national railway NS.
NS reported on its website that the issue should be resolved by around 10:30 a.m. But ProRail said it was still unclear when the system would be up and running again. “Passengers are advised to consult their travel planner for alternative transport,” ProRail said.
