Lightning strike halts train traffic between Rotterdam Central Station and Breda

No trains are running between Rotterdam Central Station and Breda this morning. A lightning strike caused a malfunction in the technical installation of the Willems railway tunnel, making train traffic through it impossible, ProRail reported.

No train traffic is possible between Rotterdam Central Station and Roosendaal, and therefore, no trains can run to Breda. Trains to the Noord-Brabant city use the same track. There are also no trains running between Rotterdam Central Station and Lombardijen.

The malfunction affects both the high-speed line and the regular track. NS is running buses between Rotterdam CS and Lombardijen. Travelers heading to Breda are advised to travel via Utrecht and take extra travel time into account.

NS expects the issue to be resolved around noon, and then train traffic can be restarted again.
