Partial solar eclipse visible in Netherlands tomorrow; Weather should play along

A partial solar eclipse is happening on Saturday, and with a little bit of luck, the weather should play along nicely so that it is visible in the Netherlands, Weeronline expects.

The solar eclipse will happen between 11:17 a.m. and 1:04 p.m., peaking at 12:10 p.m. with 24 percent of the sun covered by the moon. “It will look as if a bite has been taken out of the upper right side of the sun,” Weeronline said.

On Friday evening and during the night into Saturday, an area of rain will move over the country from the west. The weather should dry up on Saturday morning, and Weeronline expects clear spells. “However, the afternoon will not be completely sunny, there will also be cloud cover,” the weather service said. “Although a cloud will sometimes block the view, we will probably be able to see a large part of the partial solar eclipse.”

People planning on viewing the eclipse must remember to wear eclipse glasses to block harmful radiation. Sunglasses do not offer sufficient protection and never look at an eclipse with the naked eye.

Friday will be cloudy, with some sunshine. Showers are expected this evening. Maximums will range between 10 degrees in the northwest and 16 degrees in the southeast. The southwesterly wind will be moderate inland and strong along the coast.

Saturday will have much more room for sunshine and be mostly dry, according to the KNMI. Maximums will range between 10 and 15 degrees, with a moderate westerly wind making it feel colder.

On Sunday, the chance of showers increases again. The day will be cloudier than Saturday, with a strong westerly wind. Maximums will climb to around 14 degrees.

After Sunday, the weather will transition to sunny spells and rising temperatures. Thermometers could hit 20 degrees inland on Wednesday and Thursday.
