Sunny, unseasonably warm weather to dip back below freezing next week
Netherlands residents best enjoy the unseasonably warm weather this weekend because after Monday, it’s back to freezing temperatures, according to the KNMI forecast. After a spectacularly red sunrise on Friday, caused by Sahara dust according to Weeronline, this weekend will see abundant sunshine and temperatures up to 19 degrees. But by Thursday, maximums will be back to single digits, with minimums below freezing.
“Dry, fairly sunny and very mild for the time of year until Monday,” the KNMI said. “From Monday, increasing cloud cover followed by a chance of rain and falling temperatures.”
Netherlands residents can expect clear skies with a weak to moderate wind from the south for the rest of Friday. Maximums will range between 11 degrees in the Wadden area and 19 degrees in the southeast.
Overnight, temperatures will drop to just above freezing, with the coastal areas being a bit warmer. There will be little wind, and some fog may form, but that will quickly disappear in the sunshine of Saturday morning.
Saturday will also be sunny and dry, with maximums around 18 or 19 degrees and a weak to moderate wind, this time from the east. The Wadden Islands will be a bit cooler. Sunday will look much the same but with a bit more cloud cover.
The daytime high on Monday was likely to be five degrees lower at 14 degrees when compared to the balmy weekend. The week will start with a low chance of rain, but also only a 30 percent chance of sunshine.
The KNMI expects at least three or four straight days where the winds come from out of the north, bringing an end to a brief period of shorts-friendly weather. The overnight low could fall to 3 degrees into Tuesday, with a chance of scattered showers and daytime highs ranging from 7 to 10 degrees.
By mid-week, temperatures will be below average for this time of year. The mercury will likely fall further to 1 degree early Wednesday morning and is unlikely to rise back up to double digits during the daytime.
Some frost is possible on Thursday morning with the overnight lows ranging from -2 degrees to a bit above zero, with a mild afternoon of 6 to 9 degrees as a high. The chance of precipitation will also increase.
It is unlikely to warm up during the third week of March. “Probably occasional rain and temperatures around or slightly below the long-term average,” the KNMI said. For the last ten days of March, the Netherlands experienced an average of 11 degrees during the day and 3 degrees at night over the past few decades.
