Police arrest protesters during Extinction Rebellion demonstration on A10

Police have made over 100 arrests during an Extinction Rebellion (XR) demonstration on the A10 highway near the former ING building on Amsterdam’s Zuidas. The protest blocked the highway for approximately 45 minutes before traffic was allowed to resume.

At around 12:00 p.m., demonstrators began gathering at the exit and entrance ramps to the A10. The protest disrupted traffic, leading to the closure of the highway.

GVB buses were seen at the scene, prepared to transport those arrested, while some protesters voluntarily boarded the buses before police took further action.

By 12:30 p.m., Amsterdam’s Mayor Femke Halsema announced that the protest had been officially dispersed. The municipality had previously issued a ban on the demonstration on the A10.
