Man suspected of three murders in IJsselmonde will remain imprisoned for 90 days
The 24-year-old suspect of the three fatal shootings in IJsselmonde, Rotterdam, will remain imprisoned for at least 90 days. The Rotterdam court's chamber of inquiry decided this on Thursday. The man is suspected of triple murder or manslaughter and possession of a firearm. He was arrested at 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, on the balcony of a home on the Emelissedijk after a manhunt.
A man had been shot on a street in the nearby area for the third time in two weeks earlier that day. This happened on the Bommelerwaard. This third victim was 81-years-old.
The first shooting incident took place on December 21. A 63-year-old man was the victim. He died as a result of his injuries several days later. A 58-year-old man was shot on the Roelantpad on December 28. He was on his way home at the time. The man died that same night.
The suspect was present at the hearing of the council chamber, but his lawyer, Marco Bos, said that he said nothing to the judges. He has been questioned three times by the police. "He has made some statements, but mainly invokes his right to remain silent," said Bos.
The council chamber also extended the pre-trial detention of a 20-year-old from Amsterdam who is a fellow suspect. The Public Prosecution Service suspects him of involvement in supplying the weapon and ammunition to the 24-year-old main suspect. The man from Amsterdam was arrested on December 30 after the first two fatal shootings.
