Police seize 43 kilos of illegal cobra fireworks in Haarlemmermeer

Police seized 43 kilograms of professional-grade fireworks from a residence in Haarlemmermeer on Saturday. The cache included more than 600 cobra fireworks, which have a high explosive capacity. One resident was arrested, police confirmed on Sunday.

The operation followed a tip received via the anonymous reporting hotline Meld Misdaad Anoniem. "Fireworks like this have an enormous explosive power, especially in this quantity," police stated. "If something goes wrong, it can cause significant damage and is life-threatening. This risk extends to nearby homes and residents."

Police confiscated the fireworks and transported them to a secure storage facility. Authorities emphasized that the seizure likely prevented potential incidents involving sales, injuries, disturbances, or explosions.

The discovery comes amid increased vigilance as New Year’s celebrations approach. Police encouraged the public to report suspicions of illegal fireworks possession or trading. They outlined several reporting methods, including contacting local police or municipal enforcement officers. For urgent situations, authorities advised calling 112. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Meld Misdaad Anoniem at 0800-7000.
