One arrested after police seize 21 kilograms of illegal fireworks in Oud-Vossemeer
Police in Oud-Vossemeer, Zeeland, confiscated 21 kilograms of illegal fireworks, including nitrates and three shells, from a row house on Burgemeester Versluijsstraat on Saturday morning, police reports.
One resident was arrested at the scene and transferred to a police detention facility for questioning by detectives. The confiscated fireworks have been handed over to a specialized company for destruction.
“You better not think about what would have happened if it had exploded,” police warned.
Authorities were alerted during their daily morning briefing about the possible storage of illegal fireworks at the residence. They discovered the explosives after entering the home with permission from one of the residents.
The seized materials included primarily nitrate-based fireworks and three shells. Police said each shell has the explosive power of a hand grenade.
