Gray and wet weather to switch to clear skies and cold nights mid-week

With snow on Thursday and Friday followed by a heat record on Sunday, the Netherlands’ run-up to winter has been exciting, to say the least. The last days of autumn will be wet and gray, switching to calmer autumn weather with colder nights from Thursday, Weeronline reported.

Monday is gray and rainy, driving Sunday’s exceptionally mild air away. Temperatures will be around 15 degrees inland until mid-afternoon, but will then quickly drop from the west to around 10 degrees. The coastal areas will see some dry periods this afternoon, spreading to the rest of the country as the rain moves further east.

Tuesday will see slightly changeable weather. The day will start with some showers in Zeeland and occasional sunshine elsewhere in the country. But in a wide strip across the middle of the Netherlands, more and more showers will develop during the day. North and south of this strip will remain much drier. Afternoon temperatures will be around 12 degrees. There will be a moderate south-westerly wind that will weaken in the afternoon and evening.

Wednesday will be cloudy, with rain falling from the west for a considerable time. Later in the day, there is also a chance of strong winds, maybe reaching storm strength along the coast. “The forecast is still uncertain,” Weeronline said. Maximums will climb to around 9 degrees - fairly typical for the end of November.

Thursday will also see a few showers, but the days after will have more sunshine and generally dry autumn weather. The wind will weaken considerably, which could result in fog during the night and morning. “The temperatures will slowly, but surely drop,” Weeronline said. “On Thursday, the maximum temperature will fluctuate around 9 degrees, but on Friday and next week, it will not be warmer than 4 to 7 degrees in many places. The nights, in particular, will cool down considerably.”
