Officially warmest November 24 ever measured in the Netherlands

This Sunday is officially the warmest November 24 ever recorded in the Netherlands, Weeronline reports. At the De Bilt weather station, 14.7 degrees were measured around midday, putting the old record from 1980 out of the books. The old record stood at 14.4 degrees.

After a cold week, temperatures rose in the night from Saturday to Sunday. The reason for this was a mild south-to-southwest wind. In many places, temperatures rose to up to 16 degrees. The south of the country in particular is very warm for this time of year.

The highest temperature ever recorded in the Netherlands was 16.3 degrees on November 24. If the mercury rises above this mark at a weather station, it is also the warmest November 24 ever recorded across all weather stations.

Heat records have already been broken seven times in 2024: on January 23, February 15, March 3, March 14, April 6, September 1, and October 25. So far this year, no day has been colder than ever before.

Consequently, heat records are much more frequent than cold records. In this century, nine times as many heat records have been set as cold records. For 183 days, which is just under half of the calendar year, there is a heat record for the maximum temperature in De Bilt that goes back to this century, Weeronline reports.
