Warmest March 2 since measurements started; More weather records on the way
Yesterday was officially the warmest March 2nd ever measured in the Netherlands. The maximum temperature climbed to 16.2 degrees Celsius at the national weather station in De Bilt, breaking the 16.0-degree record from 1959, Weeronline reported. More such records are expected to fall in the coming days.
Several places in the Netherlands had even warmer weather on Monday, with thermometers topping 17 degrees in the south. De Bilt is considered the average for the Netherlands, weather-wise.
Yesterday’s record was the first official date heat record for the year, but several regional records were already broken on February 25. In Eindhoven and Maastricht, maximums climbed to 19.8 degrees Celsius, breaking the 2019 record. In De Bilt, temperatures reached 17.3 degrees on February 25, but the national record for the date is 18.3 degrees measured in 2019.
“The coming days will also see very mild spring weather with similar temperatures,” Weeronline said. The weather expects regular sunshine and maximums between 9 degrees on the Wadden Islands and 17 or 18 degrees in the south all week. “Because the records are also around 16 degrees Celsius, multiple date records cannot be ruled out.”
