Code Yellow warning for heavy gusts of wind and hail this evening
The meteorological institute KNMI issued a Code Yellow weather warning for Saturday. Heavy gusts of wind are expected in coastal areas in the evening. The strong winds will decrease again on Sunday afternoon.
The heavy gusts of wind may cause disruption to traffic, events, and outdoor activities. Therefore, there is a slight risk of damage to houses and buildings, such as roofs.
On Saturday afternoon, the clouds will thicken from the west. According to Weeronline, there will be light rain in the south and west in the late afternoon. Furthermore, temperatures will range between 11 degrees on the Wadden Islands and 14 degrees in the south of Limburg. In Utrecht, Gelderland, and Overijssel, afternoon temperatures will be around 12 degrees. The southerly wind will blow weakly to moderately over land, sometimes quite strongly in coastal areas and at sea.
At first, it will be calm with a mix of clouds and clear spells. Later in the evening, an area of heavy showers will move eastwards across the country from the west. In addition, local hail and thunderstorms may occur. Shortly after the passage of the thunderstorm area, the wind will shift to the west and increase to moderate over land and quite strong at sea.
From the late evening, especially during showers, heavy gusts of wind of 75-95 km/h are expected from a westerly direction. The winds will come from a north-westerly direction. In the second half of Sunday morning, the wind will decrease in the western coastal area. During Sunday afternoon, the wind will also decrease in the northern coastal region, the weather service reports.
During the night, the heavy showers will leave the country and temperatures will cool down to between 7 and 10 degrees.
