Five hurt, one hospitalized after fire at Hague restaurant
Five people got hurt in a fire at a restaurant in The Hague on Monday evening. They suffered smoke inhalation. One person had to be hospitalized, a spokesperson for the fire brigade confirmed to Omroep West.
The fire started at around 7:00 p.m. in an exhaust duct of the restaurant on Bierkade. The staff escorted customers outside while the fire department responded. Firefighters also evacuated the surrounding homes.
Firefighters struggled to reach the fire, so extra personnel and equipment were deployed. Eventually, the fire brigade had to demolish part of the building to get to the blaze and prevent it from spreading.
All five of the injured people suffered from smoke inhalation. Paramedics treated four at the scene and took one to the hospital for further treatment. It is unclear whether they were restaurant employees or customers.
