Higways reopen after flooding; Mostly dry weather today with temps up to 25 degrees

The A1 and A35 near Hengelo and Enschede are open to traffic. The Rijkswaterstaat had closed the two highways overnight in both directions because heavy rains caused them to flood. Only the entrance and exit of the provincial road N735 at De Lutte, which connects to the A1, is still closed due to flooding.

A spokesperson for Rijkswaterstaat told RTL Nieuws last night that the A1 was underwater for hundreds of meters. “There are people stuck at the moment. We don’t know how long it will take before we can help them.”

The heavy rain on Sunday night also caused flooding in more places in Twente. Streets and tunnels were flooded in Enschede, Loser, and Oldenzaal, among others.

An ambulance got stuck in Oldenzaal and bystanders and firefighters had to help transfer the patient inside into another ambulance.

The meteorological institute KNMI predicts little to no rain for Monday, with only a light shower or two in the afternoon. The day will be a mix of sunshine and clouds, with maximums ranging between 22 degrees Celsius on the Wadden and 25 degrees in the southeast.

The rest of the week will be changeable, with showers and thunderstorms expected on Tuesday, drier weather on Wednesday and Thursday, and more downpours on Friday and Saturday. Maximums will be in the low 20s, only maybe climbing to 26 degrees in some places on Thursday.
