Suspect convicted of mistaken-ID murder of Amsterdam DJ Djordy Latumahina
Noureddine H. was convicted on Monday in the 2016 mistaken identity shooting that killed Amsterdam DJ Djordy Latumahina and injured his girlfriend. The District Court of Amsterdam sentenced the 43-year-old to 25.5 years in prison, four fewer than the Public Prosecution Service (OM) recommended.
The court ruled that H. orchestrated the Amsterdam-West shooting eight years ago on October 8. However, he was acquitted of plotting an assassination attempt on organized crime leader Naoufal "Noffel" F., who was not murdered in Berlin as planned.
At the time of the violence, Latumahina was sitting in his car with his girlfriend and their 2-year-old daughter in a parking garage on Koningin Wilhelminaplein. His girlfriend was struck by gunfire, causing permanent injury. The child was unharmed.
"The suspect has ensured that a young man's life was taken away, and that his girlfriend's hand is permanently disabled. A happy family has been destroyed. She has to continue living without her partner, and the daughter has to continue living without her father," the court chair said when reading the verdict.
The court said it was reasonable to refer to the shooting of the couple as a case of mistaken identity. The gunmen mistook 31-year-old Latumahina for someone else. The intended target was another individual, Gino M.
According to the court, revenge is the motive for the deadly violence. "Taking revenge on individuals who had previously turned against members of the organization."
Seven suspects have already been convicted in recent years for involvement in the shooting. Both shooters have been given prison sentences of 30 and almost 23 years.
While H. organized the Amsterdam shooting, the court said it could not be proven that H. tried to set a scenario to guarantee the execution of Noffel F. The court said it believed he knew of plans to kill F., but that others had previously ordered the attack. The court did say there was enough evidence to prove that H. was running a criminal organization.
